Prague offers a growing number of possibilities for vegetarians. Most Czech
restaurants only have a few dishes that can be eaten by vegetarians,
and it is the same dishes every where, so the selection is small. The is
situation is improving as a few places have begun to serve vegetarian dishes. We have collected some
of the best at the list below.
Bona Vita Soya Dlouhá 610, Prague 1 |
Prague's original experiment in soy, Bona Vita continues to dish out its bizarre concoctions from the lean, mean protein bean in
its post-modern cafeteria on the edge of Old Town Square (to the left of Jan Hus). More frequently, however, the soy sits next to
vats of spaghetti and real-meat stir-fry. Bona Vita offer plenty of healthy choices: Bouncy soy burgers, soy chilli, and soy stir-fry
share the bill with more familiar (and tastier) cafeteria selections. |

Country Life Melantrichova 15, Prague 1 |
In the bad old days a salad used to mean a bowl full of lettuce. But
that was before this establishment opened it's doors. Vegetarians who come here have been putting on
weight ever since. The egalitarian set up means that you will have to grab a tray, join the queue and
make a choice from the selection of dishes daily changing. Some meat eaters may find some dishes a
bit bland but it is certainly good for you. And if you decide to live a more healthy life then you
can even buy the dry ingredients here. |

Govinda Hare Krishna Restaurant, Soukenická 27, Prague 1 - Old Town |
It's strictly a vegetarian affair at this Hare Krishna restaurant.
The menu changes every day but will always include a choice of soups, several stewed vegetable
dishes served with wild rice or beans and a dessert. The preparation is very simple, using very
little oil, spices or herbs. Don't forget to try the large selection of sweets on offer downstairs.
Finally the organic food-store at the front offers a range of healthy products to compensate for all
the unhealthy food most of us normaly consume. |

LOTOS Platnerska 13, Prague 1 Tel: 232 2390 |
Something of a Godsend for Prague vegeterians. One
look at the extensive menu is enough to convert even the most devote foie gras eater. The small and
unassuming entrance on a quiet street leads to an equally unassuming, high-ceilinged, elongated space.
The food bar, adjacent to a series of small tables, allows guests to see and choose from the daily
selection of dishes. Although it is also possible to order from the extensive a la carte menu.
After eating it feels like you did your body a favor and that you can look the Vltava ducks in the
eye with a clear conscience. Warm strudel filled with broccoli, whole wheat spaghetti with mushrooms and sage
sauce, and freshly pressed juices are some of the specialities prepared from fresh and almost
entirely organic ingredients. |

RADOX FX CAFE Belehradska 120, Prague 2 Tel: 24254776 |
Vegetarian heaven landed in Prague 5 years ago. The
menu is filled with veg. delights.
The mix salad platter for four it is a wonderful starter. If you would like to sit in the cafe and
there is a wait you can get a number and wait in the artistic lounge and have one of their many
selection of drinks.
Not merely an excellent vegetarian restaurant but also a world-class club, bar, art gallery and
music shop. Funky, colourful, ecelctic decor, large lounge sofas, amorphous mosaic tables and cool,
black-clad waiting staff move to the ambient beat. The food includes stir-fried vegetables,
couscous, pasta, salads and an excellent weekend brunch. Best of all the kitchen is open until 4 in
the morning. So you don't need to go to bed hungry ever again! |
