The Powder Tower is one of the 13 original fortification gates to the Old Town and today stands isolated among the bustling 20th Century and adjacent to the art nouveau Municipal House whose interior was partially designed by Alphons Mucha. The Tower dates back to the 13th century, and received its name in the 17th century because it was used for storing gunpowder. The present gothic look was shaped 200 years later. The Tower is the copy of the original tower which can been seen at the Charles Bridge.
